When it comes to marine generators, reliability doesn’t come from adding more technology, it comes from getting the fundamentals right.

This Wooden Boatshop Deal Island 55, approximately five years old, was originally fitted with a Fischer Panda 1000i inverter generator. Unfortunately, over its short service life, the owner experienced ongoing reliability issues, spending more than $20,000 trying to keep the generator operational.

The solution was a complete replacement with a Coelmo DM900 9kVA marine generator. A generator built around one key principle: simplicity.

Why Coelmo?

One of the biggest strengths of the Coelmo DM900 is its straightforward, proven design.

Rather than relying on complex inverter technology, the Coelmo uses trusted, industry-proven components:

  • Kubota D722 three-cylinder diesel engine
  • High-quality MeccAlte alternator
  • ComAp control system
  • No inverters or rectifiers

Less complexity means fewer components that can fail, making servicing, diagnostics and long-term ownership significantly simpler.

Proven Kubota Reliability

At the heart of the DM900 is the Kubota D722, a naturally aspirated three-cylinder diesel engine operating at 3,000rpm.

Its simple heat exchanger arrangement and conventional seawater pump which works well with both Johnson and Jabsco impellers, make routine servicing straightforward and minimise downtime.

Direct Power. No Unnecessary Complexity.

Unlike inverter generators that convert through additional electronic components, the Coelmo alternator produces 240V, 50Hz AC power directly.

These are:

  • No inverter modules
  • No rectifiers
  • No unnecessary electronics

For most marine applications, this provides a dependable and uncomplicated power solution that’s easier to maintain and troubleshoot.

A Better Experience Onboard

There are immediate noticeable differences after installation. The Coelmo DM900 runs quietly within its soundproofed enclosure, with very little noise heard from the saloon. The only sound of cooling water exiting the vessel.

Routine servicing is also made easier thanks to excellent access to all major service points, allowing inspections and maintenance to be completed quickly and efficiently by the owner.
