In a significant upgrade, THT recently repowered a 1990-built Precision 40 Flybridge Cruiser, transforming it into a more reliable and efficient vessel for pleasure use. The original engines, two Cummins VT555 marine engines each producing 330HP at 3000rpm, were replaced with two new FPT NEF 450 marine engines, each delivering 450HP at 3000rpm. The old engines were coupled with twin disc MG506 marine gearboxes, which have now been upgraded to two new ZF 85A marine gearboxes with a 2.1 ratio.

The decision to repower was driven by the need for reliability and the unavailability of parts for the Cummins VT555 engines. The old engines had also begun to emit excessive smoke, further emphasising the necessity for an upgrade. The new FPT engines, with a 6.7-litre displacement, offer not only more power but also improved fuel efficiency, burning 40 litres per hour per engine.

The Precision 40, with its wide fiberglass hull and a length of 12.2 meters, now achieves a cruise speed of 19 knots at 2400rpm and a maximum speed of 24 knots at 3000rpm, thanks to the repower. To enhance control and performance, THT also installed a Flexball Twin Engine Throttle System, providing the vessel with precise and responsive engine management.

This repower has breathed new life into the Precision 40, ensuring that it will continue to serve its owner reliably for years to come.
